Mark Ruskell, Scottish Green MSP, hosted an online event on the future of Mossmorran on Monday, February 13.

He was joined by Lang Banks, the director of WWF Scotland and member of the Just Transition Commission, and Dr Daria Shapovalova, the senior lecturer in Energy Law and coordinator of the Just Transition Lab at the University of Aberdeen, where they discussed the Natural Gas Liquids plant with 40 members of the public, as well as representatives from Fife Council and Unite the Union.

All three speakers reiterated the need for a just transition for the site and called for stakeholders to work in unity to achieve a greener way forward for Mossmorran. It comes after research commissioned by Mr Ruskell, that charted a net zero journey for the plant and offered decarbonisation pathways, was published last year.

He commented: “There is no question – a just transition for Mossmorran is a necessity, not a luxury.

“Our climate obligations and a shifting global market for plastics means that Mossmorran’s journey to net zero needs to seriously speed up.”
