Wood, a global leader in consulting, engineering, and project management, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our established engineering and design team on an initial 12 month contract. In this role, you will support a client site based in Mossmorran and the expectation would be for you to be based at site for a minimum of 2 days per week with the rest based at home.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer contractor, you will have the opportunity to execute electrical engineering activities across various project stages, from concept to detailed design. Safety will be of utmost importance as you ensure compliance with defined standards, improve working practices and systems, and maintain the required technical quality of work.

Work scope
- Review design packages for electrical systems and equipment (i.e., Power & Distribution Transformers, motors, generators, high voltage/low voltage switchgear / Motor Control Center (MCC), distribution network, control equipment, power outlets etc.) including drawings, datasheets, detail scope of work, calculations, Bill of Material / Quantity and preliminary cost estimates, Hazardous Area Classification and power System Study
- Prepare the Project Design Basis Document as per the project scope
- Prepare the entire project load lists based on the project scope
- Produce technical reports for the scope of work, and technical specifications for specific electrical equipment
- Manage the electrical activities of engineering, procurement, and eventual construction (EPC) contractors during the Front-End Engineering Development (FEED) and design phase
- Coordinate with Project managers to finalize the Electrical Engineering scope for the entire project / package
- Carry out analysis of major equipment selected in the design package
- Review and respond to technical and site queries
- Experience in project execution in accordance with client’s and worldwide industrial standards
- Monitor and review in coordination with client’s PMT the performance and work quality of the contractor
- Ensure that the design work by contractor is in accordance with client’s design standards, applicable codes/regulations, and acceptable work practices
- Assist the Project Managers and Project Engineers in evaluating Material Requisitions (MR), Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) and Award Recommendation (AR) provided by Contractor and able to perform Procurement support
- Review and evaluate Change Orders to ensure full compliance with standards and that costs are in line with project budget
- Work closely with Engineering Teams during the project to ensure facility integrity in terms of HSE
- Provide technical assurance for electrical discipline deliverables for projects
- Recommend new improvement solutions for installations or modifications to improve existing facilities and standards
- Good knowledge on Power system automation
Skills / Qualifications
- UK Bachelor’s Degree/HNC or equivalent in electrical engineering or related field
- Strong technical background and expertise as an experienced engineer
- Proficiency in site surveys and data gathering for brownfield projects
- Familiarity with design and assessment methods within the discipline
- Competence in analytical methods and theoretical background for analysis programs
- Understanding of commercial, contractual, and administrative aspects of engineering
- Ability to collaborate with other disciplines and meet delivery dates
- Knowledge of quality control requirements and assurance for engineering work
