Email to First Minister

Email to the First Minister – urge your Health and Environment Secretaries, and the operators at Mossmorran, ExxonMobil and Shell, to send representatives to attend a community meeting in Lochgelly on Friday 17 May.

Residents’ concerns about the safety of the plant, the nature of its emissions and the acceptability of its impacts on local communities have mushroomed. SEPA has received over 900 complaints and the Mossmorran Action Group online map of social, health & environmental impacts now has over 300 entries.

Acknowledging this very high level of community concern, Fife Council passed a motion on May 2, requesting the Scottish Government to commission an independent investigation into the environmental, health and social impacts on local communities from Mossmorran’s operations, as well as calling for compensation for the impacts of flaring, and for discussions to start on decommissioning.

Friday’s public meeting has been organised by a local grassroots organisation Mossmorran Action Group, and SEPA and Lesley Laird have accepted invitations as panellists. Jeane Freeman and Roseanne Cunningham declined panel invitations and an invitation to the Public Health Minister Joe Fitzpatrick is still outstanding. So far both Shell and ExxonMobil are boycotting the meeting, pointing instead to existing fora for public engagement.

Please use the form on the left (or above if on mobile) to contact the First Minister urging her to contact ExxonMobil, Shell, and to send her Cabinet Ministers along to the public meeting to listen to the concerns within our communities.

Public Meeting: the Public Meeting is being held at Lochgelly Town Hall starting at 7pm on the Friday 17th May 2019.
